How We Disclose Personal Information
Your Personal Information may be disclosed:
- To our service providers who provide services such as website hosting, data analysis, payment processing, information technology and related infrastructure provisions, customer service, email delivery, auditing, and other similar services.
- To enhance our fundraising strategies and reduce our costs, we are members of certain nonprofit database “cooperatives”. We may occasionally share your name, address, and giving history with these cooperatives for marketing purposes.
- To your friends associated with your social media account, to other website users and to your social media account provider, in connection with your social sharing activity, such as if you connect your social media account to your Site account or log-into your Site account from your social media account. By connecting your Site account and your social media account, you authorize us to share information with your social media account provider, friends associated with your social media account, and other website users, and you understand that the use of the information we share will be governed by the recipients’ privacy policy(ies). If you do not want your Personal Information shared with other users or with your social media account provider, please do not connect your social media account with your Site account, and do not participate in social sharing on the Sites.
- By you, on message boards, chat, profile pages, blogs, and other services (including social media pages) to which you are able to post information and materials. Please note that any information you post or disclose through these services will become public and may be available to users of the Site and to the general public. We urge you to be very careful when deciding to disclose your Personal Information, or any other information, on the Websites.
- To a third party in the event of any reorganization, merger, sale, joint venture, assignment, transfer, or other disposition of all or any portion of our operations, or assets including in connection with any bankruptcy or similar proceedings.
- In addition to the scenarios identified above, we may share Personal Information for any other purposes disclosed to you at the time we collect the information or pursuant to your consent, including if we notify you on the Site that the information you provide will be shared in a particular manner and you provide such information.
Third-Party Payment Processor
If the provider is located outside Uganda, we ensure that any transfer of Personal Information complies with Ugandan law (for example, transfer to a destination with protection at least equivalent to Uganda’s law or on the basis of your consent). You should review the provider’s terms and privacy notice presented at checkout
Cookies and Other Technologies
We use cookies and other tracking mechanisms to track information about your use of our Site or Services. We may combine this information with other Personal Information we collect from you.
Cookies are alphanumeric identifiers that we transfer to your computer’s hard drive through your web browser for record-keeping purposes. Some cookies allow us to make it easier for you to navigate our Site and Services, while others are used to enable a faster login process or to allow us to track your activities at our Site and Service. There are two types of cookies: session and persistent cookies.
- Session Cookies. Session cookies exist only during an online session. They disappear from your computer when you close your browser or turn off your computer. We use session cookies to allow our systems to uniquely identify you during a session or while you are logged in to the Site. This allows us to process your online transactions and requests and verify your identity after you have logged in and as you move through our Site.
- Persistent cookies. Persistent cookies remain on your computer after you have closed your browser or turned off your computer. We use persistent cookies to track aggregate and statistical information about user activity.
For more information about the cookies we use, please see our Cookie Notice
Third-Party Cookies.
We may also engage third parties to track and analyze non-personally and personally identifiable Site data. We use the data collected by such third parties to help us administer and improve the quality of the Site and to analyze Site usage. Such third parties may combine the information that we provide about you with other information that they have collected. This Notice does not cover such third parties’ use of the data. If our use of third-party cookies changes in the future, we will provide clear notice and obtain your consent before setting any non-essential cookies.
Disabling Cookies.
Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but if you prefer, you can edit your browser options to block them in the future. The Help portion of the toolbar on most browsers will tell you how to prevent your computer from accepting new cookies, how to have the browser notify you when you receive a new cookie or how to disable cookies altogether. Visitors to our Site who disable cookies will be able to browse certain areas of the Site, but some features may not function.
Clear GIFs, pixel tags and other technologies.
Clear GIFs are tiny graphics with a unique identifier, similar in function to cookies. In contrast to cookies, which are stored on your computer’s hard drive, clear GIFs are embedded invisibly on web pages. We may use clear GIFs (a.k.a. web beacons, web bugs or pixel tags), in connection with our Site to, among other things, track the activities of Site visitors, help us manage content and compile statistics about Site usage. We and our third-party service providers also use clear GIFs in HTML emails to our customers, to help us track email response rates, identify when our emails are viewed and track whether our emails are forwarded.
Do Not Track
At this time, we do not respond to Do Not Track requests.
Third-Party Analytics.
